True North Ministry is known for their prison ministries, serving incarcerated youth in Akron, Massillon, and Highland Hills. True North is launching a new ministry for inner-city middle-school and high-school students entitled ACCELERATE! This after-school program will serve students by providing assistance with homework, a meal, devotionals, and fun activities.

ACCELERATE! is hoping to begin in Spring 2021, with the date being flexible based on coronavirus factors. The home of ACCELERATE! will be at Patterson Park Community Center in the North Hill neighborhood of Akron, however, True North hopes to expand the ministry to other neighborhoods of Akron as well.

Other goals of the program are to have small group Bible studies and mentoring for the youths. The hope is that the youths will grow into a relationship with the Lord and be incorporated in a local church. This will help them to increase “in wisdom and stature, and favor with God and people” (Luke 2:52), just as the Lord Jesus did in his days as a youngster.

The program will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 5:15 PM. At least two city of Akron staff members will be present at the community center to assist volunteers. There will be strict COVID-19 safety procedures, including temperature checks, the wearing of masks, and social distancing in the building.

True North asks that you prayerfully consider contributing to the ministry! Many volunteers are needed to serve the students, especially with the goal of expanding into different neighborhoods. True North only asks that volunteers commit to visiting once per month. This is an opportunity to store up treasures in heaven for eternity by leading these youths into a relationship with Christ.
